 Types of Payments

Types of Payments

People entered into a public pension scheme will receive a pension under the following circumstances.
Certain conditions must be met to be eligible to receive a pension. Please enquire at either the Senior Citizens Support and Health Insurance Division of your local ward office or a Japan Pension Service Office for more details.

(1) Old-age Pension (rorei nenkin): When one reaches 65 years old

Pension benefits are paid to individuals who have paid pension insurance premiums for 10 years or more, upon reaching 65 years old.
The period of the employees' pension and national pension can be added together. Periods during which you received exemptions from national pension contributions can also be added.

(2) Disability Pension (shogai nenkin): if you suffer a disability

Pension payments are made to individuals who are enrolled in the pension system or individuals under 20 years old who became disabled due to illness or injury. Types of disabilities for which benefits can be received are specified.
* Even if the individual is enrolled in a pension scheme, if they were behind on their pension premium payments, pension payments may not be provided.

(3) Survivor's Pension (izoku nenkin): if an insured individual dies

This will be paid to the surviving family when an individual enrolled in a pension scheme dies.
* Bereaved families will only receive pensions under certain conditions.
* Even if the individual was enrolled in a pension scheme, if they were behind on their pension premium payments, pension payments may not be provided.
